Arbitrator rules CareSource must pay $2.8 million to Kettering Health

Managed-care provider has 10 days to appeal ruling

An arbitrator has ruled in favor of Kettering Health Network in a dispute with CareSource over reimbursements for outpatient services.

In the original complaint filed in March 2013, Kettering Health Network, one of the area’s largest hospital systems, accused Medicaid managed-care provider CareSource of underpaying for certain surgical claims and sought a judgment of $4.1 million.

After more than two years of legal filings between the two Dayton-based companies, an arbitrator with the American Hospital Lawyers Association last week issued a final award of $2.8 million to Kettering Health, according to court records.

The award must be confirmed by a judge, and CareSource has until Sept. 11 to file papers seeking relief from the award.
