With holiday shopping sales expected to reach more than $655 billion this year, WalletHub released its report on the best stores for holiday shopping deals. The report surveyed 8,000 deals from 35 of the biggest retailers in the U.S.

The average discount rate for Black Friday levels out at about 39 percent. Consumers can avoid Black Friday traps by aiming for this discounts of 39 percent or higher.
According to the report, Macy’s has the highest overall discount rate at 63 percent, and Big Lots had the lowest discount rate at 23 percent.

Retailers with the best discount rates this year include:
• Macy’s — 63 percent
• Stage — 63 percent
• J.C. Penney — 63 percent
• Harbor Freight — 63 percent
• Gordmans — 62 percent
• Kohl’s — 58 percent
• Shopko — 56 percent
• Fred Meyer — 50 percent
• Craft Warehouse — 45 percent
• Sears — 44 percent
The WalletHub report showed toys had the biggest share of discounted items. Books, movies and music had the least amount of items with discounts.

Many retailers have announced they will shut down on the national holiday, reopening for Black Friday and the rest of the weekend. Closed retailers include hhgregg, Cabela’s, Menards, T.J. Maxx, Sam’s Club, Ikea, Staples, Barnes & Noble, and Home Depot.
Stores like Macy’s, Walmart and Kmart will remain open on Thanksgiving, and wuold stand to lose major revenue to the competition if they closed.
