LexisNexis leasing office building on Miami Twp. campus

LexisNexis is seeking a new tenant for a building on its Miami Twp. campus as the company continues to move jobs from the Dayton area to its existing technology offices in Raleigh, N.C.

The online legal research company — a subsidiary of RELX Group, formerly known as Reed Elsevier — recently listed 80,000 square feet of office space for lease at 9393 North Springboro Pike for just over $1 million a year, property records show. The building is one of six on the LexisNexis campus near Austin Landing, just off Interstate 75.

The company, with about 3,000 employees in Miami Twp. and more than 10,000 worldwide, told the Dayton Daily News last year that it would reduce its footprint in Dayton over the next few years, but offered few details about the impact on employment.

“As we continue to build a software and technology center of excellence in Raleigh, North Carolina, some technology roles will move from Miamisburg to Raleigh over time,” read a statement from company spokeswoman Pamela Rath. “On balance, the total number of employees across the LexisNexis Legal & Professional business remains consistent with prior years.”

LexisNexis was born in Dayton as the Mead Data Corp. in 1966 and is still one of the area’s Top 10 employers, but the company has shed hundreds of workers over the years as it consolidates operations.

Still, the company, which city officials have described as one of the Dayton-area’s most valuable corporate citizens, gave no indication that it plans to abandon the area.

“Our company has a long history of operations and innovation in Ohio, and we remain committed to our facility in Miamisburg,” the statement added. “Dayton is a key office location and talent feeder into the organization with employees at this site supporting mission-critical deliverables.”
