The new Troy Kroger Marketplace is opening its doors Thursday.

The store is located at 731 W. Market St. to the east of the old Kroger, which is closing and being demolished in coming weeks to make way for added parking. The new store at close to 124,500 square feet is about twice as large as the old store.

A by-invitation VIP event was held Tuesday evening with employees showing off the new store that includes a sushi bar, an expanded pharmacy, a health clinic and wine bar along with, among other offerings, apparel, household items, a Fred Meyer Jewelers and a Greenville Federal branch. Work continued Wednesday on preparing the new store’s offerings for its first customers.

The store will have more than 400 employees.

The company said grand opening events are being planned for spring.
