New nursing home coming to Miamisburg

Carespring Health Care Management is in the early stages of planning a Miamisburg nursing care facility.

The new facility will be called Sycamore Spring Health Care and Rehabilitation, located near Sycamore Medical Center, but on the north side of Ohio 725 (Miamisburg-Centerville Road). The medical center is south of Ohio 725.

The Dayton Daily News first reported in late September that Kettering Health Network will sell Sycamore Glen Health Center’s nursing and rehabilitation beds at 2175 Leiter Road to Carespring. Carespring plans to build a new facility nearby as part of the transaction.

The sale from Kettering to Carespring is expected to close in the first or second quarter of 2020.

In an e-mail sent to Kettering Health Network employees in late September, Chief Executive Fred Manchur that the transfer involves only Sycamore Glen Health Center, not Sycamore Glen Retirement Community. The retirement community will remain a part of Kettering Health Network, he said.

Ryan Homsi, a Miamisburg city planner, said the building’s the site plan has not gone before the Miamisburg Planning Commission yet. But very preliminary plans call for a 70,000-square-foot building, with 99 beds of a skilled nursing facility.

The site has no distinct address yet, but Homsi said it is on what city officials call Old Central Road, bounded by Ohio 725, across from the Sycamore Medical Center campus.

“I think they’re shooting for getting the special use application to us by early December, which we’ll review,” Homsi said. Projects acceptable under an area’s particular zoning but which still require a public hearing require a special use application.

Planning Commission will likely review the proposed use sometime in January, with construction probably beginning next spring, Homsi said.

A state filing on the new facility identifies the site as a skilled nursing facility. A message seeking comment was left with Kim Majick, chief development officer at Loveland-based Carespring.
