Report ranks top 10 holiday travel destinations

You’re not the only one looking to escape the cold weather this holiday season.

Travel insurance comparison site Squaremouth has ranked the most popular places to travel this holiday season. These countries will see the most U.S. travelers this season:

1. Mexico

2. Bahamas

3. Costa Rica

4. United Kingdom

5. Australia

6. Jamaica

7. Thailand

8. Germany

9. Dominican Republic

10. Cuba

According to the website, Cuba and Jamaica saw the most dramatic increase of visitors compared to 2015. Cuba has a growth rate of about 67 percent, and Jamaica has a growth rate of 51 percent. Australia will cost travelers more for a holiday getaway, averaging about $4,308 for a trip.

More than 103 million Americans — and about 4 million Ohioans — will travel more than 560 miles from their home for the holidays. About nine in 10 people will drive to their destination, the highest total volume since AAA began tracking holiday travel data in 2001.
