Any plans tonight, football fans?

Less than four hours before kickoff, there are still tickets available for the Ohio State Buckeyes’ season opener this evening against the Indiana Hoosiers in Bloomington.

StubHub showed tickets as low as $52 on the upper sideline at Memorial Stadium. Slightly pricier offerings were available for seats in other parts of the stadium.

Tonight’s game may be somewhat unusual in that it’s happening A) on a Thursday evening, and B) on the road, with the Buckeyes traveling to Indiana.

The Buckeyes’ fan base, however, is admired for travelling well and backing their teams as few other fan bases ever could.

“By nearly every measurable number possible, the Ohio State football program is among the most adored in the country,” Forbes magazine contributor Robert Tuchman wrote in January 2015. “This past year they were second in the NCAA in home attendance with over 105,000 fans per game and posted the highest average total attendance in the nation (which includes away games) with 96,346 fans per game.”

That sentiment no doubt holds true today.

Collegespun.com ranked OSU at the top of the nation’s “most powerful fan bases.”

"Ohio State has always been among the strongest programs and fan bases in college football, but winning the 2014 national championship seems to have woken something up in the Buckeye fans," the Big 10 home web site said two years ago. "Buckeye fans showed up in a big way during that College Football Playoff run, which included wins over two of the other teams on our list: Alabama and Oregon."
