Telehealth kiosks debut at area pharmacies

HealthSpot kiosks can be found at the following locations in the Dayton and Springfield areas:

• 437 North Wolf Creek St. - Brookville

• 2916 Linden Ave. - Dayton

• 3875 Salem Ave. - Dayton

• 900 Union Blvd. - Englewood

• 564 McAdams Drive - New Carlisle

• 590 West Main St. - New Lebanon

• 1805 S. Limestone St. - Springfield

Dayton and Springfield area residents can now dial up a doctor using so-called “telehealth” kiosks recently installed at Rite Aid drugstores.

The 40-square-foot, enclosed telehealth stations from HealthSpot Inc. provide high-definition videoconferencing to connect patients with on-call doctors. The booths also feature digitally connected medical devices, including stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs, that allow doctors to conduct office-like exams from remote locations.

The booths, which are supported by trained wellness attendants, are intended to treat customers age 3 and above for minor or common health conditions, including cold and flu, rashes and skin conditions, eye conditions, earaches and seasonal allergies.

No appointment is necessary and most insurance will be accepted, according to Rite Aid and HealthSpot officials, who declined to disclose financial terms of their partnership, first announced in November last year.

In addition to the Dayton-Springfield area, HealthSpot stations are located inside Rite Aid pharmacies in Akron, Canton and Cleveland.

“The opening of the first HealthSpot stations inside select Rite Aid pharmacies in Ohio is another step in our transformation into retail health care company,” said Robert Thompson, Rite Aid executive vice president of pharmacy. “We are excited to be bringing such an innovative concept to market and look forward to introducing our customers to HealthSpot.”

The HealthSpot stations provide a convenient alternative to office visits that allow clinicians to extend their reach into local communities and serve more patients with expanded hours.

“We are thrilled to be working with Rite Aid to pilot this new health care model as the first retail clinic truly integrated with local health systems to expand access to affordable and convenient health care in Ohio,” said HealthSpot CEO Steve Cashman.
