“As a fourth-generation, family-owned business, instilling family values throughout Von Maur is at the core of what we do, and it gives me great pride to ensure each and every one of our associates receives some much-deserved time off with their families and friends over the holidays,” said Jim von Maur, president of Von Maur.

Von Maur operates 31 stores in 14 states throughout the country. All stores will close early Nov. 23 at 4 p.m. and will re-open Nov. 25 at 9 a.m. – only one hour earlier than normal business hours.

Von Maur locations will close at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and remain closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

It isn’t the only store to shut its doors during the holiday. Retailers like hhgregg, Cabela’s, Menards, T.J. Maxx, Sam’s Club, Ikea, Staples, Barnes & Noble, and Home Depot have all announced closures for Thanksgiving Day.

Even Mall of America stunned some shoppers and retail experts by its decision to close on Thanksgiving. Stores like Walmart, Kmart and Macy’s will remain open on Thanksgiving, and would stand to lose major revenue to the competition if they closed.

The National Retail Federation expects sales in November and December — excluding automotive, gas and restaurant sales — to reach more than $655 billion, significantly higher than the 10-year average of 2.5 percent.

What do you think? Should stores open on Thanksgiving Day? Will you shop on the holiday?
