The Victoria Theatre Association’s National Geographic Live! Series, presented in collaboration with Five Rivers MetroParks, wraps its 2016-2017 season Monday, April 24, at the Victoria Theatre featuring acclaimed photographer/filmmaker Pete McBride.

A Colorado native who has traveled to over 75 countries, McBride spent 15 years with National Geographic. In recent years he took time to capture the vast beauty of the Colorado River and India’s Ganges. In addition to his award-winning film “Chasing Water,” he has produced a book and hosted a PBS TV program. He has also been named a “Freshwater Hero” by the National Geographic Society.

Over the past year, McBride, who grew up on a cattle ranch along the Colorado River, notably hiked the entire length of Grand Canyon National Park, over 700 miles without a trail. He regarded his feat as a “remarkable blister builder,” but stated the purpose was to highlight challenges America’s national parks are facing as increased development pressures are poised to change the canyon’s landscape.

In related news, the Victoria’s 2017-2018 National Geographic Live! Series consists of Mireya Mayor: Pink Boots and a Machete (Jan. 28 and 29, 2018), Bertie Gregory: Wild_Life (Feb. 18 and 19, 2018), and Terry Virts: View From Above (March 11 and 12, 2018).

Mayor, a former Miami Dolphins cheerleader and current star of “National Geographic WILD’s Wild Nights,” is a field biologist who particularly discovered a new species of lemur in Madagascar. Gregory plans to share what it means to coexist peacefully alongside creatures of the natural world.

Virts, an astronaut and photographer, has logged over 5,300 flight hours in more than 40 different aircraft, including the F-16 “Viper” and the Space Shuttle. Specifically, on Feb. 8, 2010, he made his first spaceflight as pilot of the Space Shuttle Endeavor on a mission to deliver the now famous Cupola, which provides astronauts with a 360-degree view of the International Space Station and our planet.

“Our National Geographic Live! Series presentations have been selling out this season,” says Ken Neufeld, VTA President and CEO. “To meet the growing demand, we have added a second presentation on Sunday afternoons so more of Dayton can enjoy an intimate look at our world through the eyes of National Geographic’s explorers, photographers and filmmakers.”

Season tickets start at $66 and are on sale now.
