Kelley Austria named top defender in Atlantic 10

Dayton Flyers senior senior Kelley Austria won the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year award Tuesday. She was also named to the all-conference second team and all-defensive team.

On Twitter, Dayton coach Shauna Green called the Carroll High School graduate Austria, "The Glove." Austria leads the Flyers, who play Virginia Commonwealth in the A-10 tournament quarterfinals at 11 a.m. Friday in Richmond, Va, with 47 steals. Dayton won a share of the A-10 regular season title last week with an overtime victory against Saint Louis.

Senior forward Saicha Grant-Allen and junior guard Jenna Burdette were named to the second team. Grant-Allen also made the all-defensive team. Freshman guard Jayla Scaife made the all-rookie team.

Jackie Kemph, of Saint Louis, was named A-10 Player of the Year. Jeff Williams, of La Salle, was named A-10 Coach of the Year.
