At a hefty 13 percent alcohol by volume (ABV), the stout is Yellow Springs Brewery’s first beer to take advantage of state officials’ decision this fall to eliminate the 12 percent alcohol cap for beer.
“We are really excited that we are able to to produce bigger beers now, and customers can look for many more in the future,” YSB brewmaster Jeffrey McElfresh said in a release.
Bottles of the newly released Maxxdout Stout will be available for purchase for $15 per 22-ounce bottle, with a limit of three bottles per person. Only 500 bottles will be available.
The brewery described the Maxxdout as “an Imperial American Stout brewed with crisp American 2-Row malt and plenty of chocolate and roasted barley, then dry hopped with Amarillo and Centennial hops. Big, hoppy when fresh, and perfect for those wintry nights.”
The Dec. 23 tap list at the brewery also will include two variations of the stout: Coconut Rum Maxxdout and Maxxdout aged on blueberries.
Yellow Springs Brewery opened in April 2013. Last year, it added 1,600 square feet and new production equipment to its brewhouse and tasting room to help accommodate retail sales of canned beers. And this year, it purchased the former Village Lanes bowling alley at 1475 Xenia Ave. in Yellow Springs for use as a distribution center. YSB beers are now available in kegs and cans across the Miami Valley from Wapakoneta to northern Cincinnati, and in the Columbus area.
