Local agencies get funds for mental health, substance abuse services

Local health community health centers are among the recipients of $7.4 million in Ohio grants.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced the grants today, which are for mental health and addiction treatment services.

“No corner of our country, from rural areas to urban centers, has escaped the scourge of the opioid crisis,” Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price said in a statement. “The Trump Administration is taking strong, decisive action to respond to the crisis caused by the opioid epidemic. These grants from HRSA go directly to local organizations, which are best situated to address substance abuse and mental health issues in their own communities.”

Community Health Centers of Greater Dayton, Dayton-based Five Rivers Health Centers, Butler County Community Health Consortium, Family Health Services of Darke County, Middletown-based Talbert House and Springfield-based Rocking Horse Children’s Health Center.

Nationally, $200 million worth of grants were awarded to 1,178 health centers.

The grants ranged from $148,828 to $175,000.
