A house fire in the 5000 block of Tewkesbury Drive in Huber Heights destroyed the kitchen and has forced a family to spend the night elsewhere.

Crews were dispatched just after 8:00 p.m. The kitchen was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, Huber Heights Fire Chief Mark Ashworth said.

He said the fire is believed to have started in the kitchen but the cause is under investigation. An investigator has been called to the scene.

A family pet found unresponsive in the home has been revived by paramedics and taken to an animal hospital to be checked.

The residents were able to evacuate safely. They will have to stay elsewhere tonight because of the smoke and water damage, the chief said.
