Persistent rain in the Miami Valley has homeowners seeking repair services

As rain persists in the Miami Valley this spring, many homeowners are seeking repair services.

Cleanups cost about $2,500 for the average customer, said a technician from Puroclean, a home restoration service.

Puroclean was in a Beavercreek neighborhood for most of Thursday afternoon assessing damage from recent storms. Crews say they are seeing a lot of sump pumps that can’t keep up.

There are fewer days to work and one rain day backs up crews for two days, said Steven Tobin, owner of Smith and Sons Home Improvement.

The owner of one area roofing company said he has four crews and is booked until September.

“We get a surge of them and then it seems like it slows down and then we get a surge back of them,” said Collin Huston, a Puroclean technician. “With all the rain, we’ve been getting some pretty steady calls in for flooded basements.”

He said it’s important to always check the basement.

All of this wet weather is keeping his crews busy, Huston said.

“We go into more people’s houses that just literally haven’t been in that room or that area in so long that by the time that they get to it, it’s a really big deal,” he said.
