Three firearms, live and spent ammunition and drug paraphernalia were seized by Butler County Sheriff’s detectives from the Ross Twp. residence where an 18-year-old boy was shot and killed Tuesday evening, according to a search warrant obtained by this news organization.

A 911 call was received by dispatchers about 6:30 p.m. from a home in the 900 block of Hine Road from a woman who said she came home from grocery shopping and found the teen dead on the couch. The woman said her son came running to her, saying she needed to call for an ambulance.

Austin Hensley, a Ross High School student, was pronounced dead at the scene. He died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Officials say the teen’s death was the result of a robbery gone bad. Two suspects, both 17-year-old Ross students, are in the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center.

One boy, age 17, is charged with murder, aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence, according to Butler County Juvenile Court Administrator Rob Clevenger.

“(The shooting suspect) lured (the victim) to the house, they were gonna trade guns, supposedly,” Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones said. “In the process, the (shooting suspect) had all intentions of robbing (the victim) that he lured into the house through social media.

“It appears a scuffle took place and then an attempted robbery, and the victim was shot and killed.”

The second suspect, also a 17-year-old, faces a charge of grand theft of a firearm. Court documents indicate this second suspect removed his father’s .38-caliber handgun from his father’s bedroom and passed it to another subject, who is not named in the documents.

Court documents also say the accused shooter attempted to wipe down the gun and hid it after the incident.

Search warrants were served by detectives on both sides of the Hine Road duplex on Tuesday night. Nothing was taken from the side that faces Hine Road, but 21 items were taken from the side with a Hamilton-Cleves Road address.
