EARLIER REPORT

Several family members are facing charges after they allegedly ignored police commands and tried to interfere with the arrest of their son and brother on Tuesday.

The incident happened around 2:20 p.m. in the 500 block of Cedarhurst Avenue after officers on patrol observed a white Dodge Charger that had previously eluded a traffic stop, according to the Dayton police report.

When the driver — identified as Sherrod J. Dyer, 24, — spotted the police cruiser he started running for the front door of his mother’s home on Cedarhurst, according to the report.

The officers caught up with Dyer as he was entering the home and a struggle ensued.

During the struggle, officers observed a black handgun fall from the front of Dyer onto the living room floor, according to the report.

Police said that firearm, a loaded Sig Sauer 9 mm, was among more than 33 taken in an August 2015 break-in at the Miami Armory, 8945 Kingsridge Drive.

Police arrested the suspect and after searching the car and home, they seized 8.4 grams of suspected heroin, a digital scale, gel capsules, a safe and $455, according to the report.

While waiting for an evidence crew to respond to the scene, an officer was ordered to secure the living room where the handgun remained on the floor.

Police said that’s when Dyer’s twin brother Jerrod Dyer, attempted to enter the home.

Police advised him he wasn’t allowed to enter and ordered him to get off the porch.

Police said Jerrod Dyer started behaving erratically and became verbally abusive to the officers. As he continually ignored their orders to stop, other family members arrived on scene and began yelling at police, according to the report.

As the officers struggled to arrest Jerrod Dyer for ignoring their orders, the family members converged on the officers “similar to a pack of wolves,” according to the report.

Police said the suspects’ mother, 41-year-old Tashana Dyer, charged at the officers like “a linebacker making a tackle,” which caused the officers to lose their footing on the ice, according to the report.

Two sisters, 27-year-old Deanna and 25-year-old She’Dymond Nicole Brookshire, were also arrested because they repeatedly tried to interfere with the arrest, according to the report.

Police said both sisters got on their phones and called friends, “requesting backup.”

Police said Tashana Dyer admitted later that what she did was wrong. She was issued a summons to court instead of being booked into jail on suspicion of resisting arrest.

These suspects are being held in the Montgomery County Jail pending court hearings on suspicion of the listed charges:

  • Sherrod Dyer: Receiving stolen property; obstructing official business; resisting arrest; carrying concealed weapon; having weapons while under disability; possession of drugs; and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle
  • Jerrod D. Dyer: Disorderly conduct; obstructing justice; and resisting arrest
  • Deanna L. Brookshire: Disorderly conduct; obstructing justice; and previous traffic violations
  • She'Dymond N. Brookshire: Disorderly conduct
