Demolition closer for Fairborn motels

Demolition is nearing for two Fairborn motels near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, with asbestos removal beginning this week on the Broad Street properties.

Asbestos removal on the closed Falcon Motel at 36 N. Broad St., and Sunset Inn at 15 S. Broad St. will take approximately 2-3 weeks, said Fairborn Community Development Director Mike Gebhart.

“We’re tentatively thinking demolition will start on the Falcon first on the week of Feb. 20,” Gebhart said, noting demolition of the two multi-building properties will take about 10 weeks.

The Broad Street demolitions are part of the city’s redevelopment plan. City leaders hope to revitalize the corridor as a mixed-use area with restaurants, retail and office space.
