Fairborn city manager departing for out-of-state gig

Fairborn City Manager Debbie McDonnell will leave the city for a position in New York, she announced Tuesday.

McDonnell said she will be taking on a “new opportunity” as city administrator of Poughkeepsie, NY.

“I’m the type of person who likes to go in and look at strategies and fix things,” she said. “I started to feel like God was asking me to go somewhere else and do the same thing.”

The city manager made the announcement to Fairborn city staff and council Tuesday morning, she said.

McDonnell said Assistant City Manager Pete Bales is prepared to take over as interim city manager in Fairborn.

“I feel I’m leaving the city here knowing everything is very strong and all the right people are in all the right places,” she said.
