Around 99 students are expected to graduate from the medical school, according to the university. Murthy served as surgeon general from 2014 to 2017 under former president Barack Obama.
Murthy is the son of immigrants from India, according to WSU. Murthy has said he developed an interest in medicine as a child while spending time in his father’s clinic in Miami, Florida.

Murthy earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and his M.D. and M.B.A. degrees from Yale University.
He completed his residency training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and Harvard Medical School, where he later joined the faculty as an internal medicine physician and instructor, according to Wright State.
