Ohio Gov. John Kasich appointed three trustees to two Dayton college boards on Friday, filling a few positions that have long been vacant.

Bruce Langos, of Dayton, will join Wright State University’s board of trustees immediately, filling a position that chairman Michael Bridges said has been vacant for about two years. Austin Rains of Dayton will also join WSU’s board as a student member on July 1.

Wright State has been plagued by scandal and financial problems over the last two years but Langos said he thinks he can help “resurrect things at the university.”

Langos previously worked as chief operating officer for Miami Twp.-based Teradata and is currently working with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to develop a criminal intelligence center, he said.

“Based on my experience and skill-set I think I can contribute to solving some of the issues the university is facing,” Langos told the Dayton Daily News.

Kasich also appointed Manindaer Singh Kalra of Mason to serve on Sinclair Community College’s board of trustees, beginning immediately. That board position has been empty for around a year, a Sinclair spokesman said.

The governor’s office has struggled to fill college trustee positions, a spokesperson for Kasich’s office told the Dayton Daily News recently. Kasich has proposed shortening state university trustee terms from nine years to six in order to better recruit leaders to boards.
