Schools must earn a straight A on all value-added measures on the state report card. The school district must also have at least two value-added subgroups of students, which include gifted, lowest 20 percent in achievement, and students with disabilities. Of 611 public school districts in Ohio, 55 were awarded this honor.

Also, Northwood Elementary Principal Sally Moore assisted Superintendent Tony Thomas in recognizing the Northwood PTO with the Superintendent’s Helping Hands award.

“Just a few years ago, Northwood didn’t have a PTO, and these staff had to step up and get it going,” said Moore. “These volunteers have spent countless hours building the group back up and creating the support that our staff needs on a daily basis.”
