Addicts who overdose could face charges if they don’t ask for help

The message to Clark County drug users is simple: Get help for your addictions or face criminal charges.

Clark County Prosecutor Andy Wilson is seeking to combat the opioid epidemic in the area.

“It’s just absolutely unbelievable,” Wilson said. “We can’t continue to let people just walk in and out free to abuse themselves. It takes a toll on the system … We’ve got to do something to force these folks into treatment.

Currently, those who overdose can walk out of an emergency room without any future requirement of treatment to combat their issues.

As of March 6, local EMS crews had responded to more than 325 overdoses.
