Apartment fire displaces four families in Kettering

An apartment fire this evening has displaced four families in Kettering.

The fire was reported around 7 p.m. at the Huntley Ridge Apartments in the 500 block of Forrer Boulevard.

Kenneth Durham, who lives in an apartment building across the street, said he was cooking in his kitchen when he spotted smoke coming from the building.

“All of a sudden, the flames were busting out, three or four feet, out the top window,” he said.

Durham said he saw a Kettering police officer, who was one of the first to arrive on scene, run inside the building to make sure no one was inside.

Apartment manager Richard Jagel said there were no injuries but the four units in the building are uninhabitable.

The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist tenants.

The tenant in the unit where the fire started was out of town, but the cause remains under investigation.
