Brake fire spreads to trailer on NB I-75 ramp in Sidney

Firefighters had to stretch 1,800 feet of fire hose to extinguish a semi fire that broke out on the northbound Interstate 75 exit ramp to Ohio 47 in Sidney Tuesday morning.

Fire crews were dispatched to the exit ramp around 5 a.m. after receiving a report of a semi with a brake fire on the exit ramp.

Officials said the fire in the brakes quickly spread to the trailer and ignited it.

Firefighters stretched about 1,800 feet worth of fire hose to connect the nearest fire hydrants to extinguish the blaze.

The semi was hauling recyclable materials and was heading to Napoleon, Ohio.

Crews blocked the northbound Interstate 75 exit ramp to Ohio 47, and the Ohio 47 entrance ramp to southbound Interstate 75 to battle the blaze. Police said the ramps are expected to be closed until around 9 a.m.

No injuries were reported.
