Crews battle fire at Riverside business on Brandt Pike

UPDATE @ 3:22 p.m.

News Center 7’s Malik Perkins spoke to the owner of the building, Michael Ortman, who said, “It was a complete shock when he received the call that his building was on fire.” Ortman said he was in the process of relocating his business, but still used the structure for storage. According to Ortman there were tractors and alot of expensive tools that were all declared a total loss. Ortman had insurance for about one third of the contents, but wishes he had purchased more coverage.

Daniel Stitzel, Fire Chief of Riverside, said that his crews initially went inside the structure to fight the fire, but had to take a defensive position. The change of action occurred after what he believes was a propane explosion. The building has been declared a total loss and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Stitzel reports no one was hurt in the blaze and he praised the work of over five departments that worked together to extinguish the fire.

Fire has caused significant damage to a metal building at Dayton Trailer Sales on Brandt Pike in Riverside Wednesday morning.

Firefighters said the blaze caused the roof to collapse while they were battling the flames. Emergency scanner traffic indicated firefighters were forced to evacuate the building and fight the fire defensively after the flames intensified.

No one was inside the building when the fire broke out and no injuries have been reported.
