Family pet dies in Clayton house fire that destroys attached garage

UPDATE @ 8:30 p.m.: A family pet, believed to be a dog, perished in the house fire on Crestway Drive in Clayton that destroyed the attached garage and damaged the first floor of the home, Clayton Fire Chief Brian Garver said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said, noting it was too early to estimate the dollar amount of the damage to the structure and contents.

Garver said the house is uninhabitable. The family will have to say elsewhere for now.

UPDATE @ 6:12 p.m.: Fire has destroyed the garage, believed to be attached to the house in the 6700 block of Crestway Drive in Clayton.

Apparently no one is home, say fire officials who searched the property.

Firefighters from Brookville, Englewood and Harrison Twp. are among the departments on scene.

INITIAL REPORT

Crews are on the scene of a house fire in the 6700 block of Crestway Drive in Brookville.

The incident was dispatched about 5:20 p.m. We have not heard about any injuries.

We're hearing the fire involves a two-story single-family residence with an attached garage. The fire reportedly began in the garage and spread to the house.

We have a crew on the way and we will update this developing report.
