District announces finalists for superintendent’s position

The community can meet the candidates Monday.

The board of education for Valley View Local Schools has begun its second round of interviews with finalists to replace superintendent William Kirby when he retires this summer.

The finalists include Brad Silvus, director of Curriculum for Fairborn City Schools; Stephen Arnold, superintendent of Wayne Trace Local Schools in Haviland and Richard Earley, who retired in January from Hillsboro City Schools.

“They interviewed eight out of the 21 applications and of those eight, three have been invited back for a second interview,” Kirby said. “The board was very pleased with the quality of the candidates that have applied for the position.”

The community will have a chance to meet with the candidates 6 p.m. Monday in the library of Valley View High School, 6027 Farmersville Pike. The meeting will be immediately followed by a brief reception.

“We want to give the staff and the community an opportunity to hear from each of these three candidates, even ask some questions. We will follow that with a reception and give the community and staff the opportunity to give some feedback to board members as to how they would appraise these candidates,” Kirby said.

Silvus has been in his current position for two years, Arnold is in his third year as Wayne Trace Local’s superintendent and Earley retired in January after serving four years as superintendent for Hillsboro.

Kirby, who previously retired as superintendent of Huber Heights City Schools District, is set to retire from the Valley View position in June. He has been in this school district for two years.
