Icy, snow-covered roads a factor in head-on crash in Shelby County

Poor road conditions are being investigated as a factor in a head-on crash on Mason Road north of Sidney Tuesday morning, according to investigators.

Deputies and fire crews were dispatched to Mason Road near the intersection with Sidney-Freyburg Road around 11 a.m. after the crash was reported.

One driver was pinned in a vehicle for 30 minutes before crews were able to free them, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. They were transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital for treatment but their condition wasn’t immediately known.

The other driver transported themselves to the hospital to also receive treatment.

The entire road was covered in snow and ice and deputies are investigating the crash as weather-related.

Mason Road reopened to traffic before 1:30 p.m.
