Man, 77, killed in Butler Twp. house fire that injured 1 other

The man killed in a house fire in Butler Twp. is Kermit D. Walkup, 77. He lived in the home. The cause and manner of death is listed as pending, according to Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

A passerby who called 911 said smoke and flames were coming from much of the home.

“There’s a house on fire. Big time. I see two vehicles, one’s about to catch on fire. I’m out by the road because its going so hard,” the male 911 caller said.

One person died in a fire that destroyed a Butler Twp. home late Saturday.

The body of a man was found inside the home. A woman, the wife of the deceased victim, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.

Fire officials said they arrived to the home in the 500 block of Little York Road around 10:20 p.m. to find flames through the roof. One person was found outside, and another person, a male, was trapped inside.

“We were unable to get inside due to the nature of the fire and how involved it was by the time crews arrived,” said Butler Twp. fire Chief Dan Alig.

The State Fire Marshall’s office was on scene.

The fire drew a large response, with crews from Butler Twp., Clayton, Harrison Twp. and Vandalia.
