Police accepting Citizen Police Academy applications

VANDALIA – The Vandalia Police Department is offering citizens the opportunity to learn what being a police officer is all about.

The Police Department is accepting applications to attend the citizen’s police academy from anyone who lives or works in the city of Vandalia and is 18 or older.

The academy is a 10-week program that gives students a behind-the-scenes look at policing in city, and teaches crime prevention techniques. Students will get instruction on topics ranging from criminal investigation, traffic enforcement, personal self-defense and the law and legal process. Students will also have the opportunity to ride along with a Vandalia police officer to gain an understanding of the job duties of police officers.

The classes will run on Wednesday evenings, beginning on March 8 and ending May 10. Each session runs from 6 – 8 p.m.
