A Lebanon High School student was arrested Friday night on a charge accusing him of using social media to threaten another student in another school district.

The city school district learned of the allegation earlier in the day and passed the information to Lebanon police and the Warren County Sheriff's Office who arrested the student tonight, Superintendent Todd Yohey said in a prepared statement released Friday night.

The Lebanon High student will be disciplined by the school, Yohey said, and likely will be criminally prosecuted. The student is being kept in juvenile detention this weekend and is scheduled to be in court for a hearing Monday or Tuesday, Yohey said.

"Students need to realize that there is no such thing anymore as an empty threat; no jokes, no kidding around, no ‘I didn't mean it,’ " Yohey said in the statement.

"The people who view your posts or overhear you make threats are going to report you. In Warren County, that likely means felony charges. Parents need to have serious conversations with their children about the consequences of making threats in today's society,” he said.

"It is sad but schools have no choice in considering every threat is real," Yohey said.
