Fire crews were dispatched to the school on Avondale Drive around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday on reports of a fire alarm going off.

Initial reports indicate firefighters found a pipe that had burst and flooded at least one classroom.

A fifth-grade student at the school told our crew she was inside the classroom right as the ceiling collapsed.

“Me and my best friend walked in and the roof just collapsed. So we ran out and everybody ran to the gym. And then it started flooding,” Jaelyn Hemmings told News Center 7’s Monica Castro.

Our crew reported heavy traffic on Avondale Drive around 9:30 a.m. from parents and buses attempting to pick up students.

School officials declined to release further details about the incident and said it is unknown how long it might take to repair the damage.

We’ll update this story as we learn more.
