Police: Driver shot, sparks multi-vehicle crash in Trotwood

A man suffered serious injuries after he was shot in his car sparking a multi-vehicle crash on Salem Avenue in Trotwood late Monday night.

  • The shooting victim has been identified as a man in his 20s.
  • The victim was transported to Miami Valley Hospital and is listed in serious condition.

Officers and medics from multiple jurisdictions were dispatched near the intersection of Salem Avenue and Shiloh Springs Road around 11:30 p.m. on several reports of a shooting and crash in the area. Shortly after the initial shooting dispatch, a second dispatch for a multi-vehicle crash with injuries was sent to officers and medics at the same location.

Trotwood Police Chief Erik Wilson said the shooting victim, who has been identified as a man in his 20s, was shot multiple times while driving causing his vehicle to slam into two cars.

Information on the occupants of the other vehicles, such as their conditions and severity of injuries, was not released.

Initial reports indicate the shooting caused the crash, and five vehicles were involved in the crash.

While it’s early in the investigation, the shooting appears to be targeted, Wilson said.

“From my experience, the victim here was the target of someone,” Wilson said. “We don’t know where he was coming from, other than he was driving through the city at this time, and looks like the suspect vehicle followed him around and fired on him.”

Police located a vehicle that is believed to have fired the shots a short distance away from the crash. The vehicle was unoccupied, but was listed as a stolen vehicle. Wilson said evidence technicians would process the car and work to contact the owner of the car.

Investigators blocked Salem Avenue between Ohio 49 and Shiloh Springs Road for the investigation.

Wilson said witnesses and victims are cooperating with investigators.
