UPDATE @ 10:15 a.m.

Route 4 has reopened after a fatal crash today in Huber Heights.

Sgt. Chris Johnson, Huber Heights police, said one male was killed in the fog-related crash early today. The man’s family has not been notified yet.

Johnson said a car was traveling south on Route 4 and a truck was “trying to cut across Route 4 to go north.”

“Neither one of them saw each other; it was really bad fog and the car, I believe, went under the trailer and there was a fatality,” Johnson said.

The deceased male was the only occupant of the car, Johnson said.

“You literally couldn’t see probably 20 feet ahead of you, if that,” Johnson said, who was on the ramp blocking traffic and saw some motorists without headlights on. “That’s just ridiculous; people have to give themselves extra time.”

Johnson said he doesn’t believe anyone will be cited in the “very unfortunate, weather-related accident.”

“I don’t think the car saw the truck at all, maybe right at the last split second,” Johnson said. “Not only is it a bad intersection but the fog made it 10 times worse.”

Police said the driver was killed and they are working to determine if anyone else was in the car.

As of 7:40 a.m., there is still heavy fog at the scene of the crash.
