It can be hard to be single on Valentine’s Day — but just how hard may depend on where you live, and the Gem City ranks poorly on a study released today of the list of best and worst metros for dating.

Fewer than one-third of single people who rent in the Dayton metro area are satisfied with their dating lives, which ranks Dayton 62nd out of 70 metro areas for its satisfaction levels, according to a survey by Apartment List today.

Topping the list is Madison, Wisc., where 63 percent of single renters reported satisfaction with their dating lives. Other leading love hubs included Charleston, S.C., (60 percent satisfied) and Denver, Colo., (58.2 percent satisfied). Apartment List notes that overall the metros with lots of young, educated workers and newer tech hubs earn higher marks for dating.

Columbus ranked 12th (51.8 percent satisfaction), Cleveland ranked 28th (46.6 percent) and Cincinnati ranked 42nd (40.5 percent), the study found.

The survey asked renters: “How would you rate your current city or neighborhood for opportunities to date and make friends?” Possible responses were: very satisfied, somewhat satisfied, neutral, somewhat unsatisfied, and very unsatisfied.
