Vandalia fire department is hiring

VANDALIA – In the last 18 months, the Vandalia fire department has lost 28 part-time employees. The department is now in a state of constant hiring, according to the City Manager’s Office and Fire Chief Chad Follick.

Requirements for the job include having a certification attained at a local community college or elsewhere is the main requirement. Applicants must also be 18 years old with a valid driver’s license, according to Follick. The job is something different every day and requires a desire to serve the community is a must, Follick said.

The fire department has flexible part-time shifts with opportunities to move up into full-time work, according to the city.
