The officers ordered him to drop the weapon multiple times , but he refused, and an officer subsequently opened fire, said Capt. John Magill, operations officer for Miami Twp. police.
The incident marks the ninth officer involved shooting this year in the Dayton area and the seventh that resulted in the death of a suspect, according to this news organization’s database of officer-involved shootings.

With just days left to go in 2017, there have been four more officer involved shootings recorded this year than in 2016, according to the database.
The last officer involved shooting in the Dayton area occurred in Moraine on Oct. 20. Moraine police said two officers shot and killed Jamarco McShann, 23, of Dayton after he pointed a gun at police when they responded to a suspicious vehicle call.
