Rick Perron, marketing coordinator for the marathon, said the app provides a great opportunity to engage race participants. Apps have become a standard in the race industry, he said.
“It’s a great tool and way for marathon officials to keep everyone informed. For example, if an event gets delayed or canceled we can send out an alert through the app,” Perron said. “It’s one of the major ways we can communicate needed information.”
An additional feature of the app is that it allows family and friends to track their runner or wheeled participant while they are on the course during the full and half marathons.
The app is available for free on the Apple store and in Google Play. It will remain available for several days following marathon events so everyone can review race results, Perron said.
