Joe Walsh says he'll be 'grabbing a musket' if Clinton wins presidency

A tweet from a former Illinois congressman caused an uproar Wednesday when he said he would be “grabbing a musket” if Hillary Clinton won the presidential election on Nov. 8.

Joe Walsh tweeted Wednesday that he is voting for Trump on Nov. 8 and if Trump loses he would be “grabbing up a musket” on Nov. 9. He asked followers if they were “in” for the plan.

Walsh was immediately attacked on Twitter, other social media platforms and national TV.

For his part, Walsh is telling detractors they need to get a sense of humor.

"What the heck! A musket! … For the life of me, it's like the left … has no sense of humor," Walsh said. "I mean, a musket, what damage could a musket do? What if I had said grab your slingshot? If I wanted to get booted off Twitter or Facebook I would have said, 'Grab your gun and follow me to D.C.!' But 'grab your musket'? … I'm talking metaphorically," Walsh told Yahoo News. "We have to do what we have to do. We have to practice civil disobedience to get this country back."

CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Walsh, via Twitter, what he meant by the tweet. Walsh, who became a conservative radio talk host after he left Congress in 2013, said the tweet was in reference to civil disobedience

Ken Jennings weighed in, too.

It’s not the first time Walsh has stirred controversy on social media. In July he tweeted a warning to President Barack Obama after police officers were killed during a protest in Dallas.

“This is now war. Watch out Obama. Watch out black lives matter punks. Real America is coming after you,” Walsh tweeted. He later said he was not threatening the president, but threatening that action would happen in the streets of the country.
