Smoldering mulch led O’Charley’s in Middletown to evacuate

UPDATE @ 8:10 p.m.

Smoldering mulch led smoke to permeate O’Charley’s, which led the restaurant to evacuate while Middletown firefighters checked the building.

Capt. David Hoerst of the Middletown Division of Fire said there was no fire inside the restaurant, 3446 Village Drive. Mulch outside the building was smoldering, which Hoerst said was likely due to heat from decomposition, but there were no flames. Diners were able to go back inside after about a half hour, he said.

FIRST REPORT

O’Charley’s was evacuated this evening for a possible fire.

Crews were called shortly before 7 p.m. to the restaurant, 3446 Village Drive in Middletown, and mutual aid was requested from Franklin, according to initial reports.

Workers from a nearby restaurant reported seeing people standing outside the restaurant and several fire trucks. However, no smoke or flames could be seen coming from O’Charley’s.

The restaurant was renovated in 2014.
