UPDATE @ 6:15 p.m.

Heavy fire and smoke was coming through the roof of a vacant house this evening, Battalion Chief Rick Haacke of the Trotwood Fire Department said.

The fire reported shortly before 5 p.m. in the 6100 block of Carmin Avenue was the second fire reported within the hour in Trotwood. Crews left the scene of a garage fire on Hanna Avenue reported around 4 p.m.

One challenge was that crews were told a person may have been inside the house, which was boarded up, Haacke said.

“We did have to pull the boards off the windows and doors so our crews had access,” he said. “We had to go in to make sure there was nobody inside. No one was found inside.”

Although the house was vacant and boarded, it did have power running to it. The house is a total loss, and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Haacke said.
