New art exhibit to celebrate AF’s 70th birthday

A special exhibit highlighting the 70th birthday of the U.S. Air Force will open Sept. 9 at the Air Force’s national museum. Seventy pieces of art, one representing a significant event for each year in Air Force history, will be displayed in the museum’s art gallery. The exhibit titled, “American Airmen: Breaking Barriers Since 1947 - Commemorating 70 Years of Air & Space Power through Art,” showcases the innovation, teamwork and proud heritage of the U.S. Air Force and highlights the unique contributions of its service members.

Aero Carnival returning to Huffman Prairie Flying Field

The annual Aero Carnival is planned for Sept. 9 at Huffman Prairie Flying Field. This fun event is free to the public with free parking on the area surrounding the flying field. Directions: Interstate 70, Ohio 4 south to Ohio 444 north, west at Hebble Creek Road onto Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The schedule 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aircraft static displays are planned for various types of planes at which the public will get the chance to look closely. Aside from general activities and booths from local groups, films will be shown in the replica hangar. There will be parachute jumps, hay rides and sheep herding, presentations by Five Rivers MetroParks, rockets made on site with launches, and radio controlled flying. Remember those lost during 9/11 attacks

The Wright-Patterson Air Force Base community is encouraged to remember those lost in the terrorist attacks of 9/11 by participating in the fourth annual Run for the Fallen, scheduled for Sept. 11, beginning at 8 a.m. at the intersection of Loop and Spaatz roads on Area B. The 5K run and 2K walk events are free and open to all Wright-Patt military and civilian employees, as well as their families. Wellness screenings, classes planned

Civilian Health Promotion Services has a number of health testing opportunities and classes planned. For example the “Stress Less: Strategies to Manage Stress & Burnout” class will be Sept. 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Bldg. 50, Area B, Room #243. Back to Basics Fitness Improvement Program

The next 12-week iteration of the Back 2 Basics fitness improvement program will start Sept. 12 with an end date of Nov. 30. The program will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 4-5 p.m. at the Wright Field Fitness Center. This is a total body, core and functional conditioning program geared toward those individuals having difficulty passing any of the elements of the AF Fitness test. The first 15 slots are for active-duty members and the remaining 25 are first-come, first-served. Class is capped at 40 participants, so contact your unit fitness program manager for nominations. Celebrate AF’s 70th birthday at Wright-Patt Club

Sept. 18 marks the 70th birthday of the U.S. Air Force, and the Wright-Patterson Club will host a special celebration Sept. 14, with a cake cutting celebration and hors d’oeuvres. The festivities begin at 11 a.m. in the club’s grand ballroom. Participants can enjoy seafood, vichyssoise martinis, cured meats, relishes and imported cheeses as well as melons and tropical fruit brioche. Hot items include lobster bruschetta, carved beef tenderloin roulade, fried brie wheel and wild mushrooms profiteroles. Then, join in the time–honored tradition of the ceremonial birthday cake cutting. This event is open to everyone with base access. For more information, call the Wright-Patt Club at 522-2160.

AF Museum Theatre to show ‘Finding Dory’

The Air Force Museum Theatre's Hollywood Film Series continues in 2017, and the next show is "Finding Dory" on Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. All films are shown on the six-story giant screen in the Air Force Museum Theatre, located inside the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Orientation program available for military spouses

Heart Link is a military spouse orientation to the U.S. Air Force and to Wright-Patterson Air Force and is offered quarterly at the Airman & Family Readiness Center, Bldg. 2. The next session will be Oct. 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Please call to sign up at 937-257-3592.
