Who is Steve Scalise, the Congressman hit by gunfire Wednesday?

Rep. Steve Scalise is the congressman reportedly shot Wednesday morning in Alexandra, Va. along with two others and the suspected shooter.

Represents Louisiana: Scalise, 51, is a Republican representative serving Louisiana's 1st Congressional District since 2008. He is the current House Majority Whip.

Wife, two children: Scalise is married to his wife Jennifer (Letulle) Scalise. They have two children, Madison and Harrison. The family resides in Jefferson, La.

He is also Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, a caucus of more than 170 conservative members in the House.

LSU grad: According to his House biography, Scalise is a graduate of Louisiana State University, receiving a bachelor's degree in computer science in 1989 with a minor in political science.

His district includes all or parts of Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Terrebonne Parishes.
