The widow of a leader killed in the 2015 shooting at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, will speak at Central State University next month.

Jennifer Pinckney will speak at CSU’s commencement at 10 a.m., May 6 at the Dayton Convention center and tickets are required for admission. Jennifer Pinckney was the wife of Rev.

Clementa Pinckney who also served as a South Carolina state senator, was killed along with eight other people at the church almost two years ago.

Convicted shooter Dylann Roof was given nine consecutive life sentences in prison after he pleaded guilty to state murder charges Monday, leaving him to await execution in a federal prison and sparing his victims and their families the burden of a second trial, according to the Associated Press.

Jennifer Pinckney and her daughter are survivors of the shooting. She will share a “message of hope, forgiveness and perseverance” with 2017 graduates, according to Central State.
