Wright State University has hired a new chief diversity officer.

Matthew Boaz, WSU’s director of equity and inclusion, has been named to the new position of chief diversity officer, effective March 1, according to the university.

In his new position, Boaz will promote a campus culture that supports diversity and inclusion, while developing partnerships with students, faculty and staff.

Before starting at Wright State in 2013, Boaz served as the assistant vice president for institutional diversity and director of the office of equity and equal opportunity at Miami University.

The announcement of Boaz’s new position comes just after Wright State president David Hopkins announced a hiring freeze at the university.
