Archie Miller hopes McKinley Wright sticks with Dayton

Dayton’s top recruit tells Minnesota TV station he’s waiting to see if UD hires Tom Ostrom

Dayton Flyers recruit McKinley Wright, one of four players signed with UD in the class of 2017, may follow Archie Miller to Indiana, according to a report Monday from a Minnesota TV station.

Wright, who didn’t respond to a Dayton Daily News question on Sunday about his status, told Darren Wolfson, of KSTP Ch. 5, he has not officially asked for a release from his national letter of intent. He’s waiting to see if Dayton hires assistant coach Tom Ostrom.

Dayton coach Archie Miller spoke about Wright on the Dan Dakich show on Tuesday.

“McKinley is obvious signed with Dayton and he’s a fantastic player,’’ Miller said. “He’s the Minnesota state player of the year and I hope he goes to Dayton. He went to Dayton for the right reasons. And I’ll probably leave it at that because my job isn’t to recruit him anywhere else. He was a special kid and I know he had a great high school season but my hope for him would be for him to stick with Dayton.’’

“That's his guy,” Wolfson wrote.

Wright was named Minnesota’s Mr. Basketball on Sunday. His Champlin Park High School team lost in the state championship game Saturday on the same day Miller was hired by Indiana. Wright’s choice last fall came down to Minnesota and Dayton.
