J.T. Barrett set to return to Ohio State for fifth season as Buckeye

J.T. Barrett will have a fifth year in scarlet and gray.

The Ohio State quarterback announced Wednesday his intention to return in 2017 after a redshirt junior season that was somewhat star-crossed.

Barrett shared the Chicago Tribune Big Ten Silver Football Award as the league MVP with Penn State running back Saquon Barkley, but he also struggled with bouts of inconsistency that mirrored the up-and-down nature of a Buckeye offense.

I'm coming back for my senior year. Much love to Buckeye Nation and thank God for the blessings.

The season came to an end last weekend with a 31-0 shutout loss to Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl that served as a semifinal for the College Football Playoff.

He already holds numerous Ohio State career records, including total touchdowns (100) and passing touchdowns (69).

He needs 1,166 yards passing to break Art Schlichter’s career record set more than 30 years ago.

Barrett also could become the first three-time Ohio State captain and could get a shot to be the first Buckeye quarterback to go 4-0 against Michigan.
