Cubs’ Kyle Schwarber wasting no time putting stamp on World Series

It’s safe to say Kyle Schwarber has surpassed expectations in his surprise return to the field for the World Series.

The Middletown native was on base three times including a pair of RBI singles Wednesday night as the Cubs beat the Indians 5-1 in Game 2.

He is 3 for 7 in two postseason games after missing nearly all of the regular season because of a major knee injury. He also has a pair of walks.

Schwarber crushed a double off the wall at Progressive Field in Game 1 right about the same time at least one member of the Fox broadcast was wondering if he would be able to handle live pitching after such a long layoff, and he hasn’t looked back.

But will he be in the lineup Friday?

His surgically repaired knee might prevent him from playing the field when the series shifts to Chicago.

But, hey, coming off the bench might just present Schwarber with yet another chance to do something memorable.

He’s already left an indelible mark on the series.
