Dayton Flyers forward Ryan Mikesell underwent successful surgery on his right hip Monday in Columbus, coach Anthony Grant said Tuesday.

Mikesell, a St. Henry High School graduate who started 24 games and averaged 5.7 points as a sophomore, was diagnosed with impingements in both hips in April.

“He’s already started the recovery and rehabilitation process,” Grant said. “He’s still on schedule, as far as we know, to get the left one addressed in mid-June. He’s going to be home this week and come back to campus early next week, and obviously he’ll be in summer school rehabbing and progressing toward that next one.”

Mikesell faces six months of recovery after the second surgery.

“We’ll determine from there once we see how he progresses what the next step will be,” Grant said on May 3. “I think it would be premature to say one way or the other in terms of his status for next season. That’s all we know right now.”
